Co-Teaching Session at GIPA

Type Teaching
Date 03/2026
Place GIPA, Yerevan

On 24 March 2026, students at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) participated in an engaging co-teaching session within the European Integration module.

The session was delivered by visiting scholar Dr. Soso Makaradze (Paris Lodron University of Salzburg) together with Associate Professor Nino Abzianidze, offering students a dynamic and interactive learning experience.

Focusing on the topic “Democratic Backsliding and the European Union,” the lecture combined theoretical insights with real-world examples. Students explored key dynamics of democratic decline, including pressures on judicial independence, electoral processes, and media environments, and examined their implications for the European Union.

Importantly, the discussion extended beyond the EU context, drawing connections to countries such as Georgia navigating their European integration path. This broader perspective enhanced the relevance of the topic and encouraged critical reflection.

The session was marked by active student participation, open discussion, and critical engagement, demonstrating the value of international academic collaboration in enriching the learning experience.
